Asus Sabertooth 990FX Motherboard

Review

The following is a comparitively brief evaluation. The board in question was only in my lab for a short time, so I will only be talking about it in regard to my terse experience with it. However, I have nothing negative to say about the board, and was impressed all the way through the build process. Let's start with the Unboxing and quick tour of the Asus Sabertooth 990FX Motherboard and its accessories.

and the Evaluation and benchmarks here, wrapped up in a build video.

As this was not a permanent resident of uryaen.com labs, this is a quick evaluation, instead of a full review. If I get my hands on another, I'll do a second, more thorough review, hopefully with an AMD Bulldozer CPU.

The 990FX was capable of fairly aggressive overclocking out of the box with one click in the UEFI bios. Board never crashed, glitched, or gave me any problems during install.

Unfortunatley I did not have time to do a more comprehensive set of benches but this will give you the idea.

Issues

None.

Integrity Check

As this is a brand new paradigm in product reviews, I will take a moment to explain the logic behind it in each of my early reviews.

This is how it works:

For my site, my keystone paradigm is “Integrity”. It governs everything that I do. I do not “scoop”, I do not “spy”, nor will I purchase stolen hardware, or less serious but still crappy behavior such as copying content, posting something on my site as if it was my content, with a “via-“ link. There is no via ANYthing on my site. 100% of all of my content is generated by me. Period.

On that same token, I have certain standards for vendors. It has been my long experience that vendors will treat their reviewers equal to how they treat their customers. The only difference between a professional reviewer and an end user is that reviewers don’t pay for the product. However, we still, or at least, I still expect a certain degree of support, communication, acceptance of feedback, and level of behavioral conduct.

As part of this process, I will detail my dealings with each company from first contact, product acquisition, support, and follow up. Exceptional companies will gain a lot of credit here, and the poorly run, greedy, or otherwise “less thans” will be outed.

COMPANY

I've dealt with Asus directly on a few products and should have more coming. They have given me no reason to flag them for Integrity Check issues.

Support

Top notch.

I had an occasion or two to RMA an Asus board. They are fast, and send the board back with a new box and full accessories. Can't ask for more than that.

Conclusion

Again, I did not have much time with this board, so this is a fairly light review, but still more than a micro review. I'd love to get another one with a Bulldozer and do an evaluation on that combo. Check back soon for that! For now, this board gave me zero issues.

The Asus Sabertooth 990FX gets my highest recommendation.

I have a fresh Intel i7 3820 in the lab, and I'm hoping to get an Asus Rampage IV Extreme to let it run in. Be on the lookout for that soon.
